Seed Research of Oregon, headquartered in Corvallis, Oregon, is nestled in the heart of the Willamette Valley—the world’s major grass seed producing area. Corvallis is also home to Oregon State University. Seed Research and OSU have the same philosophy toward seed production: research, testing and certification are key to quality seed production throughout the state. Willamette Valley seed growers meet these standards and are well known for producing outstanding crops, with varieties that are famous throughout the world. |
An Emphasis on Research
Seed Research of Oregon's goal—to develop the best possible turfgrass varieties while meeting the highest standards of genetic purity—meant that it was critical for the company to establish an extensive research program. In the early stages, Seed Research worked closely with several U.S. universities that were involved in germplasm collection and breeding. These include the world famous program at Rutgers University, under the direction of Dr. Reed Funk, the University of Rhode Island and the University of Arizona. The research program has been expanded significantly under the leadership of our research director, Dr. Leah Brilman. Joint research agreements are in place with leading foreign seed companies, which enhances the wealth of germplasm and varieties coming from Dr. Brilman's program.
