Native to cooler climates of North America (however, Hitchcock noted that P. distans was introduced to North America from Eurasia); grows to 16”; fine-textured bunchgrass often used for very saline sites; adapted to moist and well drained soils; very tolerant of alkaline soils to 8.0 pH or higher; good drought tolerance; excellent cover crop for reclamation sites with contaminated soils; some use as winter turf overseeding in southern U.S. on salt-challenged sites.

Seeded at 4 pounds PLS/acre (or 2–3 pounds/1000 sq. ft. in turf). 2,000,000 seeds/pound.

Germination in 28 days, weak seedling vigor, plant fall or spring.
