Native to southern Rocky Mountains, from west Texas to southern California, north to Utah; grow to <3'; common on fine textured soils; open valleys, deserts, dry plains; good forage value; bunchy sod former, good soil stabilization; somewhat tolerant of saline and alkaline soils; fairly drought tolerant, adapted to medium to heavy soil; tolerant of moderate salinity.

Drill seeded to 1/2” – 1” deep at 6 pounds PLS/acre (20–30 pounds PLS/acre if broadcast seeding for soil stabilization). 175,000 seeds/pound.

Germination in 14 days, some as late as 30 days.
