Grows to 3.5'; adapted to moist silty and clayey soils, tolerant of dense clays; best suited to bottomlands, stream banks; associated with Western Wheatgrass/Blue Grama prairie grass communities; deeply rooted; very winter hardy; best suited to slightly alkaline soils.

Drill seeded to 3/4” deep at 5–10 pounds PLS/acre, may take up to three years to mature.
