Native to most of North America from Rocky Mountains eastward; adapted to same region and similar climates; grows to 4'; optimal growth in silty soils, well adapted to most soil conditions with adequate moisture, not well suited in wetlands or flooded areas; very low fertility requirements; moderate shade and drought tolerance; attractive downy white seed heads and reddish stems and leaves in the fall.

Drill seeded between 1/4” – 3/4” deep at 3–4 pounds PLS/acre (use 50-100% more seed if broadcast seeding). 260,000 seeds/pound.

Germination in 28 days, late spring/summer.

Camper - moderately late maturing variety, well adapted throughout Nebraska
Blaze - brilliant red fall color in foliage, excellent soil stabilization
Cimarron - regionally adapted to southwest Kansas, the panhandle of Oklahoma and adjacent states
