Adapted/naturalized to most U.S. climates, except in the extremely cold or extremely hot climates; grows to > 3'; best suited to deep, fertile soils with silty to clayey textures; with adequate moisture, well suited to most soil types and textures, moderately tolerant of of soil salinity, well adapted to wide range of soil pH; poor to moderate flood tolerance; moderate shade tolerance, better in southern climates; common turfgrass species; some varieties exhibit rhizomes.

Drill seeded to 1/4” – 1” deep at 7 – 18 pounds PLS/acre (use 50–100% more seed if broadcast seeding); significantly seeding rates in turf (to 10lbs./1,000 ft2). 175,000 seeds/pound for common types; 250,000 seeds/pound in turf types.

Germination in less than 14 days, spring or fall.
