2016 TPC Scottsdale, Phoenix Open

Seed Research of Oregon is proud to have over 15 years working with the TPC-Scottsdale staff and supplying the planting seed for the “Largest Show on Turf.”

We checked the course conditions Friday with the new Head of Agronomy and staff. Both courses look great, even with unusually hot and humid conditions during establishment, and frost closures the last 34 mornings.

The Stadium course is still busy with golfers and with construction crews installing the final tents and structures for the tournament in three weeks. While the Champions course is busy with golfers after an earlier PGA Q-School tournament.

Tournament officials estimate attendance of 525,000 people expected over the seven days of the tournament this year.

Greens: Overseeded with a custom mixture for the specific conditions on this course, and this tournament.
Vesper Velvet Bentgrass was blended with Maximum Poa Trivialis Blend, and Champion GQ Perennial Ryegrass blend to provide a superior quality playing surface.
Tees, Fairways and Roughs were overseeded at different rates using Champion Fine, a mixture of 20% SR5130 Chewings Fescue with 80% Champion GQ Perennial Ryegrass Blend. This mixture provides a great playing surface during Scottsdale’s cold and overcast late Winter conditions. Additional SR5130 Chewings Fescue was added to the tees on famous hole #16, where heavy shade is an issue.
